About The Band
In the late 1980’s, fate brought together guitarist and singer Preston Sims and singer John Gunther as part of the Solana Beach Presbyterian Agape Music Worship Team. Years later, a mutual respect between these two musicians remained. In the fall of 2010, at an all-church retreat in the mountains of San Bernardino, John sat Preston down to listen to him play harp (note for note, I might add) to recordings of Eric Clapton. The two got together on weekends starting that fall to trade their favorite tunes and try some out. It turned out that they had the same love of clever songwriters and heart-felt blues tunes. Later, Preston’s old high school buddy Jimmy Jonas joined the pair on electric guitar, and shortly thereafter John recruited Jerry Tucker on bass and Mike Harris on drums. The rest, as they say, is history…
The Band Name: Coyote Blues Redemption
The band name was born when the founders, Preston and John, disagreed on what the band should be called. Preston was keen on the concept of the original band members being musical "coyotes" or "mongrels" of the music world, without any authentic musical pedigree. John was enthusiastic about the formation of the band being a kind of "redemption" for him as a musician and in his life. The love of The Blues is strong in every member of the band, Blues is injected into the music, and Blues into the name: Coyote Blues Redemption".
